Fighting Fear

Fight fear
with faith.
Passive tolerance will not do.
You have to take fear and
shred it,
squash it,
throw it out of your life,
as soon as it comes close enough to recognize.
Smash each shadowy shape
with the weapon of God's Word.
You cannot converse with it,
for fear will drag you down
into dank dungeons.
You give it substance,
so stamp that out in Jesus' name,
and call forth faith within yourself.
Summon your spirit
to rise up and rest in God's promises
with all your will.
Don't let fear rob you,
stand steadfast in faith,
knowing God is with you at all times.
Fight fear. Don't delay.

Place Of Refuge

There is a place of refuge,
close by the Father's side,
where both death and sin
cannot come in,
it is safe, so come and hide.

There is a place of refuge,
the Savior forged the way,
where we all can dwell
and others tell,
in this truly troubled day.

There is a place of refuge,
it is not far afield,
you don't need to pay
or go away,
you only to Him must yield.

There is a place of refuge,
it is for you right now,
say yes to the Lord
whose life out poured,
and to Him we all can bow.

There is a place of refuge,
I live there every day,
it's my good news song
so don't take long,
with my King you too can stay.

Preparation Days

During lockdown
when normal has been replaced by
extraordinary,
week days lack distinction,
as rhythms of life pause.
We have time to reflect,
to take the "Selah" moment,
we craved in the busy bustle.
Our lives were spinning
unsustainably fast.
In this prolonged time out
do we turn our hearts
to the fascination of
endless entertainment
or heavenward?
These are indeed preparation days
for our King is coming.
Jesus is ready to
receive His Bride.
Am I making the most
of these preparation days?

Winter Sun

Winter sun
softly soothes skin.
The harsh summer glare
barely remembered.
Upturned faces feel
the blessing of renewed warmth,
offered with quiet reflection.
Clouds flurry into focus
playing hide and seek,
stealing the sun's heat for themselves,
before evaporating onward.
The streets are silent,
solitary walkers greet each other
as if few inhabitants remain.
The grim virus statistics click over daily
on worldometer,
numbing numbers disallowing true grief,
being beyond emotional comprehension.
One death is a tragedy.
Our human hearts can grasp
that much for right response.
A thousand deaths becomes a statistic.
What about ten thousand,
a hundred thousand, a million?
What do those numbers mean to me?
Each one a precious life,
dearly loved by devastated ones.
The earth groans more clearly now,
as we watch and wait,
thankful we are safe
in our regulated bubbles,
forgetting how different life
was before this year began.
And yet the winter sun on my skin
still feels the same.

Modern Testimony

Cut to the chase,
slip through the breeze.
He's dying,
I'm crying.
Can't see through the tears.
Tears me inside,
outside I'm fighting,
waiting to hit the floor
when the pain gets too bad.
I've got so much to gain
in taking this offer.
Too good to be true,
or maybe too good to miss,
and if I miss it
will another one come along
in a lifetime of days.
Days of despair
sink rapidly away
as I rise into
the light of new life.
I said "Yes"
What could I do,
there was love in His eyes.
That's my fairy tale
to be truly loved
for who I am,
and who is He,
this one who died on a tree
for me and mine,
and you and yours.
Never ending circles of connection going out.
We can tell others.
Should we tell others?
Yes. He's alive.
He has risen from the dead,
conquered death,
so you and I don't have to die.
Glory.
There's glory in the house.
It's thick like the presence of heaven,
giving gifts to His children.
I am lost in wonder,
but no longer lost to my King.
My Lord.
He is adored.
I love Him.
You can too.

Salvation Song

More of you and less of me,
Jesus died upon that tree.
Hanging there twixt heaven and earth,
sinless life lived from His birth.

Came that we no more should die,
free salvation is the cry.
Jesus conquered sin and death,
paid for all with His last breath.

His body marred to set us free,
so we should be on bended knee.
He came near to seek the lost,
from heaven's height He knew the cost.

His life for ours He made sure,
to open glory's gate and more.
No one is beyond His salvation reach,
He has fixed God and mankind's breach.

He is our Saviour, Prince and Lord,
seated in heaven amidst praise adored.
He is the King, God of love,
we His priests can reign above.

His kingdom it is always sure,
His hand opens a welcoming door.
You can go through in Jesus' name,
and be set free from all your shame.

Take His strong hand and be set free,
and walk in perfect liberty.
His love for you will ne'er grow cold,
His care for you will make you bold.

His life will fill your life with light,
in His presence you will know delight.
He calls your heart to join His own,
and heaven one day will be your home.

Rejoice in this that you are free,
to live with God through eternity.

It Is Finished

It was the divine right
of the King of Kings
to declare "It is finished!"
It was His right
to pull down
the powers and principalities
with His bloodied hands,
and to kick open
the gates of Hell
with His victory shout.
It is Jesus's divine right
to come again to the earth
at the end of this age,
and for us to be judged
for what we did
with His words.
It is finished!
